Taj Mahal - the power of love

Taj Mahal is a mausoleum in Agra, India, built by Mongol ruler Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

Taj Mahal - the power of love

Although the central building with its famous white dome is the most popular image of the Taj Mahal, the facility is a much larger complex of functionally connected buildings. Construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, with thousands of builders and craftsmen involved. As young prince Khurram, the third son of Emperor Jahangir, he marries the beautiful princess Arjumand Bano Begum, with whom they have 14 children. In 1628 Khurram occupied the imperial throne under the name of Shah Jahan (lord of the world), and his wife was named Mumtaz Mahal (exalted in the palace). Mumtaz Mahal accompanies her husband on all his military campaigns. She died during a military campaign in 1631 at the age of 39. The emperor decided to immortalize Mumtaz Mahal by constructing a unique marble tomb. In the last moments before his death, Mumtaz Mahal implores his wife (Shah Jahan) to build the largest and most magnificent tomb in the world. , but nevertheless he kept his word. After two years of mourning ended, construction of the mausoleum began in 1633. A large garden on the bank of the river, owned by Raja Jai Singh, was chosen as the site of construction. the site was chosen because it is well visible from the palaces in the Red Fort. The chief architect of the construction was called Isa. The Taj Mahal dome was made in the form of a tear, which according to Isa was the tear of Allah. The chief assistant of Isa was Jahanara the great daughter of Shah Jahan. The marriage, for political reasons, carried only the misfortune of the princess, and in the process of working together between Jahanara and Isa, true love was born.20 Thousands of people have been working here for 21 years. Taj Mahal's work was completed.

He represented Shah Jahan's true and pure love for his wife, but also Isa's love for Jahanara. The Taj Mahal complex is 580 meters long and 300 wide, with stables and mosques for prominent guests in addition to the mausoleum and mosque, surrounded by a high wall. The mausoleum itself has a square base, rounded at the corners, each side 56.6 meters long, with a large central arch in the middle and smaller arches on both sides. At each corner is a small dome and the central dome, 70 meters high, resembles a huge pearl - Mohammed describes the throne of Allah as a white pearl placed on four columns. The facade of the mausoleum is covered with carvings and inlays of colored stones, with verses from the Qur'an combined with floral motifs. The gates of the complex, completed in 1648, are 30 meters high and the purpose is not to see the tomb before passing through the gate. The original door of the gate, pulled away by Hindu troops in the eighteenth century, was of solid silver, with 1100 nails with silver coin heads forged on it. Calligraphic inscriptions that appear on the gate appear to be the same in size, with the letters gradually increasing from the bottom up. The garden (Char Bagh) of the complex, 300 meters long and wide, symbolizes the Muslim paradise, in which, according to the Koran, four rivers flow - from water, milk, wine and pure honey.
According to the law of Islam, all tombs and mausoleums should have a place of worship. At the two far ends of the Taj Mahal complex there is a huge red sandstone structure, each parallel to the tomb walls.
